BILLERICA AMATEUR RADIO SOCIETY MEETING OCTOBER 1 2014

The meeting was called to order at 1910
Each of the members attending the meeting introduced themselves and mentioned what there were expecting of the BARS in the future.
Topics discussed:
1/ Potential net using 147.12 Billerica repeater as an operating frequency – decided to promote the frequency in the near future among local hams. Also a 10 meter net was discussed. All thought it might be a good idea to start a net.
Elections: The following are being proposed for the 2015 Club officers:

Other nominations were solicited from the members present but none were received. The election will take place at the November meeting.
MEETING LOCATION
The Chelmsford Police station was considered but rejected as they require guests to book ahead and only allow only 2 events a year according to K1TWF. Another potential is a church in town. A number of other locations want money.
K1TW TO BE ARRL EMASS SECTION MANAGER
K1TWF announced that the present Section Manager, Phil Temples K9HI, is not running this year and that K1TW will replace him on January 1.
ANNUAL DUES
BARS has not required annual club dues for several years. The topic of re-instating dues was discussed briefly. The idea is that even a minimal amount will allow the club to keep an accurate tally of members each year. Another idea discussed was to sell some of the club’s equipment to pay expenses. The Club’s only major expense at present is insurance which runs around $200/yr. No decisions were made but more input from members is welcome.
GUEST SPEAKER
The featured speaker BOB RAVENSTEIN, W1FDR, then gave a very interesting presentation on foxhunting. He pointed out that 146.565 is the main frequency on which foxes are located. He also described techniques for finding the foxes, the foxhunting rules and reviewed the national and international scene in foxhunting. His demonstration of the devices employed to hunt the foxes was especially interesting to the members.
